Just a few quick lines to thank you for your incredible response to our free download offer on the new song I have out with the Oak Ridge Boys called “Gone Away.”
Almost five-thousand of you took advantage of the limited time opportunity, and that was with very little publicity other than what was posted here on our web site. It makes me happy to know that so many of you check our site and respond the way you do.
You’ve written me, too, saying how much you like the record and that pleases me as well.
The Oaks and I did it live for the first time last Friday on the Opry, and the audience seemed to really like it. I had to laugh, though, when I realized that about half the crowd there that night had come to see Keith Urban, back onstage for the first time since his recent throat surgery. I’ll bet most of Keith’s young fans had no idea what we were singing about with lines about Laurel & Hardy, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and Gentleman Jim. They must have thought we were really square, too, wearing our glasses and holding copies of the lyrics in our hands. Hey, it was the first time, and there’s lots of words in that song. We didn’t want to miss any of them!
Anyhow, the song is still available on iTunes and other such places, so I hope you will continue to help us spread the word. To all our DJ buddies who downloaded it and began playing it on the radio, thanks as well. Many of our fans contacted DJs in their local areas and made them aware of what was going on. Thank you, and feel free to keep that up. If any radio folks missed out, let me know and we’ll send you an old-fashioned CD copy to play for your listeners.
Folks overseas are telling me to bring my long-johns when I head their way later this month. (Now there’s something else that’s gone away….if you don’t know what long-johns are, ask somebody a whole lot older than you are!) Supposedly, it’s cold and snowy on their side of the pond. After our mild winter here in the States, that’s going to be quite an adjustment.
I’ll try to find time to write again before we leave, but in case I don’t, I’ll see you back here in this space when we return. Take care, and thanks for everything.
Oh, and by the way, one of our box sets would make a great Valentine’s present!
