And welcome to our fan club newsletter for May. This is going to be an interesting month for me.
At first glance, you might see that we don’t have any out of town concert dates on our schedule and think that I’m going to be sitting around twiddling my thumbs all month. How’s this for “twiddling”…..??
I have eight appearances this month at the Grand Ole Opry (May 4th, 5th, 8th, 11th, 18th, 22nd, 25th, and 29th), six confirmed songwriting sessions (May 1st, 8th, 10th, 15th, 22nd and 24th), and within my family I have two birthdays, a wedding anniversary, two dance recitals, and one high school graduation. Other than that, yes, I’ll twiddle.
My granddaughters Hallie (4) and Caroline (16) will each celebrate birthdays. Hallie and my granddaughter, Greta, each have dance recitals, and Rachel, my oldest granddaughter, graduates from high school. My daughter,Terri, and her husband, Grant, celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary. And this month marks the one year anniversary of my adopted granddaughter, Sophie’s, arrival from China. I’m sure we’ll find a way to celebrate that as well.
Rachel intends to keep right on chasing her lifelong dream of a career in musical theater after she graduates. I know I’m prejudiced, but I saw her play the lead role in “Annie Get Your Gun” last week, and she is really talented. Of course we all know that it often takes more than talent in this crazy thing called show business, but she has the same burning desire that her Paw Paw had many years ago. Maybe her talent plus her desire and a few answered prayers along the way will help her dreams come true as mine did. Cross your fingers.
We are continuing to work on our tour schedule for the summer and fall, and hopefully we’ll be announcing some new concert dates soon. It’s not 100% definite yet, but it appears as though we’ll be taking a CMA Songwriters Series show, similar to the one we took overseas earlier this year, to Los Angeles and Phoenix in late June. I’ll leave it at that until it’s confirmed, but stay tuned. This could be fun.
Thanks for your wonderful support of both my recording and video with the Oak Ridge Boys of “Gone Away,” and for your continuing orders for my box set, “The First Ten Years.” I’ll remind you that with Mother’s Day coming up this month, the box set makes a really nice gift. If you get your order in soon, I’ll be more than happy to autograph a copy for YOUR mom in time for her special day. (Check out the picture below of one fan club member getting her set for Christmas. I think she was happy, don’t you?)
Enjoy the pretty spring weather, family picnics, planting your flower and vegetable gardens, baseball, softball, and soccer games, or whatever floats your boat this time of year. And here’s wishing a very Happy Mothers’ Day to all the moms.
I’ll see you back here in June. My thanks and best wishes to you all.
