Well, I sure stirred up a hornet’s next with my most recent posting regarding cell phones.
I can’t believe how many of you wrote and shared your own stories. I read every single letter I got, and appreciated them all. Most of you agreed with what I had to say.
(If you missed it, you can find it in our archives.)
Many of you told me about your own experiences. One lady told how she had to wean her grandchildren off using their cell phones at the dinner table after they came to live with her. Seems they sat across the table from each other and texted back and forth throughout the meal. Another told of once being at a funeral and hearing cell phones ring twice during the service.
Another said, “I don’t own a cell phone and I plan to be the last person in my town to get one.” Another referred to cell phones as a “leash.”
Only one person took issue with what I wrote. She got defensive and said that I should not propose that cell phones be “forbidden.” I immediately went back and re-read my post, and nowhere in it did I even imply that they be “forbidden.” All I said was I thought many times we could all be a bit more selective as to where and how we used them.
Oh well….it’s at least good to know that you read my ramblings in this space from time to time. I have fun writing them.
Ooops, gotta go. My cell phone is ringing.
