Soap opera stars do it. Professional athletes do it. Polka musicians, jazz musicians, blues singers and musicians do it. Even gospel singers have been known to do it. But does anybody have more fun doing it than the stars of the Grand Ole Opry? I doubt it.
Even while you’re reading this we’re doing it…cruising with our fans and friends in the sparkling waters and warm sunshine of the western Caribbean.
I’ve lost count of how many Grand Ole Opry cruises I’ve been on, but each one is a special and unique experience unto itself. We eat, we lie in the sun, we eat, we play music, we eat, we visit wonderful ports of call, and did I mention that we eat? I have a ritual when I return home from an Opry cruise: First, I hide my bathroom scales. Second, I take my clothes to the alterations lady. Third, I promise to never visit another midnight buffet as long as I live!
I just wish each and every person who reads this could someday go with us on an Opry cruise. If you’re a country music fan, there’s simply no better place to be. There’s a live Opry show on stage every night, followed by an invitation-only cocktail party with the stars. During the day there are autograph sessions and picture-taking opportunities galore…..kinda like Fan Fair on board an ocean liner. Heck, I’m already excited about next year!
We’ll have news and pictures from Opry Cruise 2004 when we return to this space next week. But for now, has anybody seen my suntan lotion??
