Opry announcer, Mike Terry, and I sat down in the WSM radio studios recently to record a couple of new “Ambassador infomercials” for Springer Mountain Farms chicken. Mike asked me questions about my career in an interview setting, then I wrapped it up with a promotional plug for SMF products. You can see these this […]
The day before the ACM Honors ceremony, I received this beautiful spray of flowers at my house. I could not imagine who they were from until I opened the card. It read: “Congratulations on your ACM Honor. We are proud of you and thankful for you!” And it was signed, “Love – Your Opry Family.” […]
I had the opportunity to visit with Sonya Isaacs prior to her and her family entertaining and inspiring the congregation at our Church By The Lake on July 5th. Larry Gatlin will visit us on September 27th. It’s free, and all are invited. Jamey Johnson and I have been friends, fellow Opry artists, and songwriting […]
If there was ever a nicer man on Planet Earth than Bill Cody I certainly never knew him. I met Bill back in the eighties when he worked at WHAS Radio in Louisville and I was in town for the grand opening of one of our PoFolks restaurants. He interviewed me on the air, and […]
The folks at BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.), who have licensed my songs for public performance since 1958, invited me to lunch a few days ago and presented me with a beautiful framed plaque that reads: “Your Music Moves Us. We celebrate your talent, your music, and champion your rights. To all our songwriters and composers, […]
What better place to do an interview for Jeannie Seely’s upcoming biography than the legendary porch at her cottage overlooking the Cumberland River? It’s the spot where Jeannie was the happiest and perhaps her most creative. I joined author, Craig Shelburne, there to talk about Jeannie and remember her legacy. I don’t know when the […]
BobbyTomberlin, Lance Miller, and I had a great time taking part in the weekly Songwriters Series at the Franklin Theater just outside Nashville on March 19th. Sorry I’m blocking your face in this picture, Lance…it wasn’t on purpose! You contributed a lot of great music and warmth to your part of the show. Besides singing […]
It had been a long time since I had held a newborn infant in my arms, but you can tell from the grin on my face that I was thoroughly enjoying my first visit with my new great-granddaughter. She kept sleeping peacefully, so hopefully she was enjoying the moment too. There’s something so special about […]
There’s no telling how many hundreds….no, make that thousands….of trees have fallen across Middle Tennessee during this latest ice and snow storm. This particular one happened to come to rest on top of the house where I maintain my office, and from what I can tell, we were lucky. It seems to have “laid down” […]
The Grand Ole Opry continues to add new members to its cast, and I’m pictured here with two of the most recent additions….Suzy Boggus (L) and Kathy Mattea (R). Both of these ladies are great artists and will be wonderful additions to our family. (Yeah, I know…Jelly Roll is our very newest member, but I […]
