I’m sorry our newsletter is a bit late this month, but we had to make sure all our i’s were dotted and our t’s were crossed before went sent the following news out to you:
We have definitely decided to host a small gathering of fans and friends to help celebrate my 55th Anniversary on the Grand Ole Opry the third Saturday night in July. So many of you have said you’d like to be part of another big night in my life, and I take that as a great compliment.
We have been able to reserve 100 Gold Circle Opry tickets for July 16th, and we’ve set things up for an after-party at the Opry Backstage Grill following the show. It’s not going to be a big blowout like we did five years ago, but it should be fun. We’ll have hot food, a cash bar, commemorative t-shirts and other souvenirs, plus a silent auction with the proceeds going to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. With a smaller number of folks attending this time, we should have plenty of time for a meet ‘n greet with pictures, autographs, and conversation. With only 100 spaces available, though, I would encourage you to click HERE or on the link below to find out more.
I had a very nice trip to Phoenix back in late March, and in between business meetings I was able to have lunch with my friend of over 50-years, Johnny Western, and dinner with Mike and Wendie Grauer, the folks who brought me my old Grammar guitar back in August. Not many things are better than spending time with good friends.
I’ve been working on some new music lately, and have just co-written a song with Brad Paisley that I’m hoping he’ll want to include in his next album. I’ve learned that Dailey & Vincent have recorded two new songs that I helped to write, and Gene Watson has re-recorded “When A Man Can’t Get A Woman Off His Mind” for his new CD. We’re finishing up our instrumental album which we have tentatively named “Whisperpickin’, ” and we’ll have some more news about it shortly.
Thanks so much to those of you who have pre-ordered copies of my new book scheduled for release in September. I hope you’re as excited about it as I am.
Elsewhere, on the business front, I am now affiliated with a new (to me) booking agency, the Kinkead Entertainment group. Bob Kinkead has built up a great reputation in our business over the past 30-plus years, and I’m looking forward to working with him in securing our future concert dates. And If he and I ever need to have a late night meeting, he only lives three houses and one boat dock away!!
In the family world, my granddaughter, Rae, has received some very nice reviews from the theatrical press here in Nashville for her performance in a play called “The Taffeta’s” playing through April 24th at the Barn Dinner Theater. My grandson, Gabe, has recorded a new video boosting cancer awareness that you can access at https://vimeo.com/159681768. He appears to be getting very comfortable in front of the camera….and that’s scary!
Hope everybody has a great April, and I’ll see you back here in the merry, merry month of May. Thanks for all of your continuing support and friendship.
