1. My question concerns a particular guitar I used to see you use on TV. It was a Fender Wildwood from the 1960’s. You were playing it recently on an old re-run of Hee-Haw from 1974. Do you still have it, and if so, will you ever bring it out of retirement?
I still own that guitar, but it is currently on loan to the Grand Ole Opry and on display in a glass case at the rear of the Ryman Auditorium. The rhinestone strap, a pair of my boots, and a stage suit from that era are in the case as well. It would be fun to play it again someday, especially on the Opry, but I don’t know if they would lend it back to me for one night or not. Maybe I’ll ask.
2. After reading about all the shows and tours you do, I’d like to know what you take that gives you so much energy? I want some too!
I don’t “take” anything at all if you mean stimulants of some kind. I do try to “take” good care of myself by eating right, getting my rest, and exercising whenever possible. I work on maintaining a positive attitude and allowing my family and my faith to sustain me. I also still greatly enjoy what I do for a living. If I didn’t love it, I couldn’t do it.
3. If you had someone who thinks they don’t like country music but is willing to listen to three songs to see if he is missing something, what three songs would you pick?
WOW….what a question! I’m not sure I could answer that without changing my mind every five minutes or so. Let’s do this: What three songs would YOU, our fan club members, choose to play for this person? Old ones, new ones, any artist, it doesn’t matter. Send me your list (email@example.com or P.O. Box 888, Hermitage, TN. 37076), and next month I’ll choose the three songs most nominated and reveal them to you. Maybe then this person can hear them and we’ll have a new country music convert.
Thanks for all your questions. Keep ’em coming to firstname.lastname@example.org or send them to me at P. O. Box 888, Hermitage, TN. 37076. See you next time.
