July 1, 2014
Summertime is officially upon us, the 4th of July is just around the corner, and things are heating up here in Whisperville.
I told you last month that I might possibly have some exciting news for you in this newsletter, and while I can’t tell you everything just yet, I can tell you that the publication of my updated autobiography is on track, and we’re going to do something we’ve never done before with any of my books: We are going to release an Audio version with me telling the story!
Many of you have asked for this, and I’m so glad we’re going to be able to do it. The book will also be my first to be issued in both a print and an electronic edition. More details will be coming soon, but I did want to share this tidbit with you now. We are still hoping for a release date sometime in 2015.
June was a great month for us in lots of ways. Our Texas tour was very successful, and I thank each of you who came out to see us. All the venues say they want us back, so you’re not rid of us yet! I got to introduce my young protege, Mo Pitney, for his first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry, and he got a standing ovation on his very first song. Friends, trust me, that just does not happen. But it did. Hopefully, Mo’s first single will be out soon.
Willie Nelson’s new CD, Band of Brothers, which contains my song, “Songwriter,” was the #1 selling CD in the country the first week it was out…which proves there’s life left in some of us old codgers yet! I’ve had a couple more of my songs recorded recently, and I’ve been writing some new ones. Stay tuned.
We were saddened this month by the passing of Opry star, Jimmy C. Newman, and my first steel guitar player, Weldon Myrick. May they both rest in peace.
On the personal front, my family threw a belated Fathers’ Day party for me on the Sunday following the actual date, and we had a ball. They brought tons of food over to my house, we laughed and told tales, and ended the day with a sunset boat ride on Old Hickory Lake. On the 25th, I got to celebrate my son, Jamey’s, birthday with him by watching his favorite college baseball team, Vanderbilt, win the College World Series. That was special.
We’re leaving for our Country’s Family Reunion Alaskan cruise on July 18th and will be gone until the 26th. Opry dates this month are July 1st, 4th, 12th, 15th, and 29th.
Thanks for everything you continue to do to support me and my music, and my best to you all.
