June 4, 2012
Well, here it is, June….the first official month of summer. Can you believe we’re almost at the halfway point of 2012? Me neither.
It’s going to be an interesting month for me to say the least. We’ve got Fan Fair….ooops, the CMA Music Fest…coming to town this week, and I’ve got a pretty full schedule.
On Tuesday night (5th), I’ll perform two shows at the Opry. Wednesday morning bright and early, I’ll ride in the big downtown parade (where I was the Grand Marshall last year), and on Wednesday night I’ll join with the Countriest Of The Country to play some good ole….what else?…country music at the Texas Troubadour Theater.
I get Thursday off to rest my arm, because Friday afternoon I’ll be writing my name a whole bunch of times. I’ll be signing in the Roper Western Wear booth inside the Convention Center from 1:15 until 2:00, and then at the Opry Originals store at Third Avenue and Broadway from 3:00 until 4:00. Later that night I’ll be on the Friday Night Opry as well.
Saturday is reserved for another big night at the Opry, and then on Sunday I will play a short acoustical set between the “big boys ‘n girls” at LP Field. With over 50,000 people expected to be in attendance and the amplifiers and drums cranked open to full throttle, I hope folks will be able to hear me whisper!
On Monday, as all the visitors begin to stream away from Music City, I’ll be going to the doctor for a precautionary medical procedure. It’s nothing serious, but they’ve told me not to plan any activities for a couple of weeks. I’m glad it’s no longer than that, because on the 25th, I’ll be flying to California to take part in the big CMA Songwriters Festival in Los Angeles the next day. On the 27th, Bob DiPiero, Bobby Pinson, Kristen Bush, and I will present a similar show in Phoenix. I hope lots of our west coast fans and friends will come out to be with us.
I’ve been writing quite a few new songs these past several weeks and getting some demonstration recordings made. Hopefully, you’ll be hearing some of the new work before too long. I just re-signed my songwriter’s contract with Sony-ATV Publishing for another year. I’ve also been meeting with folks about everything from new radio and TV projects to some unique touring opportunities. In my spare time (what spare time?), I’ve been going to my younger granddaughters’ dance recitals, and trying to open some doors for my recently-graduated granddaughter, Rae, who wants to pursue a career in the performing arts. Wish us luck.
Have a great month, and a Happy Fathers’ Day to all the dads. Thanks for being part of our fan club. Tell your friends about us, and urge them to join. As you know, it’s absolutely free. We’ll see you back here in July. Stay cool.
